To say that the red snapper is delicious is an understatement. This mild-tasting, versatile fish doesn’t need a lot of ingredients to coax out the flavors, just a few fresh herbs will do the job. For this keto fish recipe, we’re not doing an ordinary roast. We’re taking you on a culinary trip to the other side of the world by adding an exotic Korean twist!
Today, we’ll be using Gochujang or Korean hot pepper paste. It’s a sweet and spicy paste traditionally made with Korean chili peppers, soybeans, rice flour, and salt. If you don’t have a ready jar in your pantry, we suggest a quick trip to the nearest Korean or Asian store. If there’s none available locally, there are plenty of places that sell authentic gochujang online!
Sounds like a lot of work, eh? We promise this dish isn't really all that difficult to make. It’s not only delicious, it’s also super healthy as well. This recipe makes for 2 servings, with each serving containing 258 calories, 12.8g fat, 25.3g protein, and only 4.2g net carbs!
Preheat oven to 450F and place rack in the upper third of the oven. Wash radishes and remove stems. Then cut in half and toss with ghee, sliced scallions, and ½ tsp kosher salt. Place on a quarter sheet tray and roast for 12-15 minutes.
In the meantime, spread 1 teaspoon gochujang paste on each fillet (both sides). Then sprinkle ¼ tsp kosher salt over the fillets.
Remove radishes from the oven and place fillets on top. Turn oven broiler on High. Broil radishes and fillets for 5-7 minutes until fish is cooked through and internal temperature reaches 145F. Serve hot!

What can I use instead of gochujang?
Unfortunately, there’s no decent gochujang alternative. But if you’re in a pinch and you can’t wait for your jar to arrive, then Sriracha is probably the next best thing (though any Korean chef is probably going to disagree with this). Or maybe a garlic chili paste if you have one readily available. Again, only if you’re in a pinch. We truly recommend buying gochujang to get an authentic Korean experience.
What if I can’t find red snappers?
Red snappers are one of the tastiest fish around. But if they’re not available for whatever reason, know that there are actually many different types of snappers (though it’s debatable whether any of these taste as good as red snappers). That said, white meat fish fillets such as cod, halibut, and flounder would do well as substitutes for this keto fish recipe!
What goes well with this dish?
Mashed cauliflower is an undeniable keto hit. And for good reason! It goes well with most low carb dishes, including this keto gochujang roasted snapper and radishes! Alternatively, if you’re in the mood for some mixed greens, a keto caesar salad may be more to your liking.
Likewise, if you want something creamy, how about some low carb creamed spinach? This combo would be very interesting indeed! Or how about a steaming bowl of egg drop soup or shrimp chowder as an appetizer? Can’t ever go wrong with either of these two!
How to store this roasted keto snapper?
At room temperature, this fish will last for a few hours. After that, it’s best to put in an airtight container and store in the fridge where it will keep for about 3-4 days. If you don’t intend to consume within 4 days, then put the fish in the freezer where it will be good for up to 3 months.
